Filing Information
New Hampshire’s filing period is dictated by the date set for the first-in-the-nation Presidential primary. New Hampshire law requires that the Presidential primary be held “seven days or more immediately preceding the date on which any other state shall hold a similar election” (RSA 653:9). As a result, the filing period for the New Hampshire primary will be announced once Secretary of State Bill Gardner sets the date for the 2008 Presidential primary.
Any person who is qualified under the United States Constitution may file to be a candidate in the New Hampshire Presidential primary election. Declarations of candidacy can be made at the Secretary of State’s Office in the New Hampshire State House in Concord, New Hampshire. A $1,000 fee must be submitted at the time of filing. A candidate can file for President, Vice President or both.
