Pierce Manse

Take a step back in time by touring the Pierce Manse! As the only historic house museum in Concord, New Hampshire, that is open to the public, tours of the Pierce Manse reflect the many ways in which life has changed over the past 150 years. Using hands-on objects, primary source documents, and visual clues in the historic house, participants will learn about how life was during the mid-19th century for Franklin Pierce and his family.

Group tour cost is $2 per student (17 and under) and $4 per adult. One adult chaperone per ten students is admitted free, with each additional chaperone admitted for $4. Maximum size for a tour is 50 students.

Pierce Manse tours meet expectations within the following strands in the revised New Hampshire Social Studies Framework: Civics & Government; Geography; and NH & US History.

To schedule a group tour, please call Lori Fisher, Director of Programs & Collections, at (603) 225-4617, extension 10, or e-mail lfisher@politicallibrary.org. All tours must be scheduled at least one week in advance.

We routinely work with the New Hampshire State House Visitor’s Center (603-271-2154) and the New Hampshire Historical Society (603-856-0604) to allow half of a school group to visit us while the other half visits another site. We can also arrange for half of a larger group to tour the Old North Cemetery, where President Pierce is buried, while the other half of the group tours the Manse.

Please visit the Pierce Manse web site at www.piercemanse.org for more information about the Manse, President Pierce, and other programs and events.
